      817 Stewart Avenue (Rear)
      Garden City, NY 11530-4856

SUBJECT: 2001 NYW NCO Academy

1. The 2001 NYW NCO Academy will once again be held
in conjunction with the NYW Encampment at Fort Drum
near Watertown, NY, from 28 July to 5 August.
Applications for participants in the NCO Academy will
submitted along with applications for the encampment
and are subject to the same deadlines, fees, and
application guidelines as the encampment. Please note
on the top of your application and supporting material
that you are applying for the NCO Academy. If you are
applying for the Encampment and NCO Academy only one
application is necessary (mark application for NCO
Academy).

2. Over the past year the curriculum for the NCO
Academy has been revised and this year’s attendees are
in for an exciting and challenging time. Some of the
changes include a newly revised curriculum, and a
chance for participants to gain hands-on experience by
assuming the flight staff positions for their flight.
Some of the training topics include preparing and
delivering a class, CAP written communications, drill
of the flight, evaluating cadets, and parades and
formations. NCO Academy participants will also have a
chance to participate in activities not available to
normal encampment participants including a visit to
the Ft. Drum NCO Academy, training in land navigation,
and a possible visit to the Air Assault School to
learn repelling from Army instructors.

3. Qualified applicants must have a current
membership card, be at least a Cadet Senior Airman by
the activity and have attended a previous encampment.
Applicants without a previous encampment will be
considered on an individual basis. Those applicants
without previous encampment experience must provide
justification for selection such as letters of
recommendation, personal essay, and/or resume of CAP
and other leadership activities. Generally, applicants
without a previous encampment should be a Cadet Master
Sergeant by the activity and have at least two years
of experience in CAP or similar organization
(JROTC/Sea Cadets), or have had other applicable
outside leadership experience.

4. Interested applicants who have already submitted
an application for the encampment should contact 2Lt
Phyllis Pruitt at msprissy@worldnet.att.net with their
intent and any required supplemental information.
