MEMORANDUM FOR: Group CC
                Group CP

FROM: NYWG/CPAN
      817 Stewart Avenue (Rear)
      Garden City, NY 11530-4856

SUBJECT: Letters of Intent (LOI) for Group Drill Teams

1. The wing cadet programs office invites groups to participate in
the 2002 National Cadet Competition by submitting a drill team.
Informally, we already have 2 groups with teams forming, and we
look forward to the possibility of more groups participating in a
wing-level competition. We need an early start this year- all the
other teams that competed at Northeast Region in 2001 had 25+ weeks
to prepare (i.e. started in December). The wing team from NY had
only six weeks and captured 2nd place. Imagine the results if the
NY team had 25+ weeks to prepare!

2. Wing CP needs a letter from the groups stating their intent to
participate in the 2002 New York Wing Drill Team competition by 30
October 2001. The LOI may be sent to Capt Andrew Welsh at
val_n_andy@hotmail.com or sent via mail to 503-2 Robert Quigley
Drive, Scottsville NY 14546. A registration fee of $50, non-
refundable, payable to NY Wing Cadet Programs, is required. If the
wing competition is cancelled, the $50 will be forwarded to pay for
the region registration fee. Please note that this memo applies to
drill team only. This is NOT for color guard. Letters of intent
for color guard will be due early next year sometime, and the color
guard competition will take place at a separate time from the drill
competition.

3. The wing competition will be held in the Albany area (probably
Stratton ANGB or MEG HQ) as a 1-day event. If only the 2 groups
that have teams practicing (FLG, SEG) submit letters of intent, the
wing competition will be conducted in the December timeframe. If
groups other than FLG or SEG are interested, the wing competition
will be held in the March timeframe. Groups are permitted to combine
to form a team (i.e. LIG and NYC forming a team, for example), but
both group CC’s must state this in writing to me.

4. Groups interested in forming a team but are unsure how to go
about it, can contact Capt Welsh for assistance, training help,
videos and study materials to get you started.

5. If you have any questions or concerns, contact me via email at
val_n_andy@hotmail.com or by phone at (716) 889-8502 (H) or (716)
422-9732 (W), or the Director of Cadet Programs, Maj. Henry Grullon
at hgrullon@rcn.com.

                          Andrew J. Welsh, Capt., CAP
NYW Assistant Director of Cadet Programs, North
